Rack damage is usually due to a lack of understanding about the relationship between racking systems, pallets (type and construction), and materials handling equipment, whilst often appearing at first glance to be simple carelessness.
This can be remedied by a tailored “Staff Development Programme” of re-education for all warehouse staff with the typical format:
   o An explanation of the basic principles of safe handling and storage of product in
   racking which would typically include:
1. Materials handling equipment
2. Racking
3. Unit loads
4. Pallet type
5. Operation
6. SEMA2 guidelines

   o An explanation of the critical interrelationship of all points covered above
   o A review of the racking inspection findings
   o Discussion of the damage and other issues noted in the inspection and feedback
   o Recommendations for remedial action and general discussion
Our experience is that the total cost of this programme will be recouped by damage
reduction alone within a very short period of time as a direct result of improved operator awareness and working methods.
You will also demonstrate to your workforce that you are fully committed to maintaining a safe working environment
