• Rack damage is usually due to a lack of understanding about the relationship between racking systems, pallets (type and construction), and materials handling equipment, whilst often appearing at first glance to be simple carelessness.

  • This can be remedied by a tailored “Staff Development Programme” of re-education for all warehouse staff with the typical format:
o  An explanation of the basic principles of safe handling and storage of product in
           racking which would typically include:
    1. Materials handling equipment
    2. Racking
    3. Unit loads
    4. Pallet type
    5. Operation
    6. SEMA2 guidelines

o  An explanation of the critical interrelationship of all points covered above
o  A review of the racking inspection findings
o  Discussion of the damage and other issues noted in the inspection and feedback
o  Recommendations for remedial action and general discussion

  • Our experience is that the total cost of this programme will be recouped by damage
reduction alone within a very short period of time as a direct result of improved operator awareness and working methods.
  • You will also demonstrate to your workforce that you are fully committed to maintaining a safe working environment

2SEMA – Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association is the industry body,
which advises manufacturers and users on the safe design, installation, and use of Storage Equipment.
